Guilty Past – Written August 2005 (Aged 30)

Guilty Past

i would never ask
that you give up the environment
in which you grew up in
i know –
that you cannot admit –
that it was a hurtful situation
forced to sit at the table
and chew –
on every measly scrap –
of love that was thrown
and paid off now
just because someone feels guilty
my heart goes out to you
it’s truly awful –
that you have to accept this
because not accepting it
no matter how terrible it was
would have meant you had nothing
so i do not blame you
for turning one blind eye –
to such a terrible past
it’s a difficult decision you’ve made
and my heart does go out to you
it’s a terrible way to live
been made to feel grateful –
for every measly scrap of love that’s thrown
