The Sound of Children
the sound of children
rings through their ears
you can only watch
as they perch on the early years
the sound of autism
rings like a liars bell
you can only watch
as the picnic unfolds
will it be a blanket
or the barbed wire that they roll
i could stand up
and admit defeat
wave a white flag
and talk with my feet
the sound of children
is, we have been righteously told
not one we can hear
we have been told
that we are looking old
and we have not got any
so soap box cronies tell us
we won’t know till we’ve had many
the sound of genetics
plays a complete part
i say prepare them for the future
why hang onto a past?
the sound of children
