Roles – Written Sunday 5th March 2006 (Aged 31)

Roles

you are not my doctor
and you are not my therapist
you are not my psychiatrist
you are not my consultant
you never need –
to adopt any of these roles
to give your position
you only need to be you
that is all you ever had to do
but you let the fear rule
why let fear take your hand
was you dragged back to school
or the home where you were told
but never allowed to speak
where laughter was out of fashion
and people were made to feel weak
you are not my doctor
without really knowing me
or whatever makes me tick
you never need to adopt any roles
