Encore
when you laugh
the curtains are pulled back –
on the big old stage
and the best actors are featured
scenes of my past are played
when you smile
the singer steps up to the mic
and the song is beautiful
every note is just right
when you look at me
it’s as if i am in a trance
on the stage the acrobats soar
and chorus girls dance
when you look away
because we have looked too much
the curtain draws once again
and it will not budge
that past is now a closed door
i don’t start to clap or even cheer
because i know only we will –
have that special encore
