It’s Not Personal – Written September 2005 (Aged 30)

It’s Not Personal

it was never personal –
parents are human beings
it was never directed at me
wrong time,
wrong place i guess…
my father –
has never done anything to me
because i was not the problem
it wasn’t that he hated me
because he hated himself
and that is why he drunk so much
none of it was ever my fault
it didn’t happen –
because of who i am
to be honest,
it just happened
it could have been anyone –
standing there in my shoes
it didn’t happen because i made it
somehow,
and rather tragically –
it was probably always fated
i cut the emotional cord
with surprising ease in a cool breeze
there was no victim culture for me
because,
i have never took it personally
others have tried and they still try –
to make me responsible for their problems
but their problems are their own
things did not happen –
because who or what i am
it was never personal
that is something i do understand
