The First Time
it’s like the first day at school
the first humbled fumble
the first time you broke the rules
the last time you felt like a fool
it’s like the last chance palace
all they feel is faint,
and heads are heavy with malice
it’s just like the first day i knew
the first time i lost out
shadowed in doubt,
the last time i found out
and the nerves will still catch me
they still wrap me up in chains
it’s like the first day at school
the hope of fresh rain
know not what will be,
and always expect a little pain
but pray that one day hope will be free
