Pointless March – Written November 2023 (Aged 48)

Pointless March

they march up the high street
in a line,
it’s such a pointless march
they do not know –
even why they take part
they put down their newspapers
which tell them,
which sides to pick
they undertake a minutes silence
and the sound of their silence is thick
this is how –
we have been conditioned
senseless slaughter,
rebranded as national tradition
but what respect –
do we actually pay
to those who did the fighting
have we learnt lessons
as civilian feet do their marching
young people,
stuffed into ill fitting uniforms
no mention of peace
actual lessons to be learned
lost in translation
i have sorrow and i have respect
for those who lost their life,
but not so much for the politicians
who plunged in the knife
