The Faint Sound of Cheer
i look at my friends,
their path, so different
mine?
cracked or broken,
or at best,
an array of cobblestones –
and dimly lit drifting
help me set out the stones
was my momentum –
always about rag and bone
friends,
and their relationships
together,
for so many years
me,
i am the faint sound of distant cheer
the ripple in the pond,
just before the water becomes clear
i wonder –
if they know what it is like –
to explore your being in the world –
when the path turns to a street
but all they see,
is what lies underneath
or, ‘what ifs’, just never apply
because,
life is not always so sweet inside
