The Sum of Age
stupid soon finds you out
takes a left turn
at an all too familiar roundabout
and it has,
a familiar clout
all those years are just glitter dust –
in the snow-globe of my past
previous computers,
have a resonating laugh
but my memory lungs
have food based tar
talking about dreams
in such non-descript ways
when your mountain pass
unexpectedly turns to wet clay
well we were all young once
i can remember when my ambition
sat in the corner like the proverbial dunce
stupid soon finds you out
as weary forgets –
the words to twist and shout
as hope refuses to retire
and enters just one more bout
and youth,
youth shrinks away from its days as a lout
