Torture Device – Written Saturday 19th August 2023 (Aged 48)

Torture Device

never think of our past as –
something to be concerned with
as a younger man –
you just live –
and often you live without wisdom
building,
a self made kingdom
never quite realising –
that the choices you make
exist as a device to remind you
that unless you met each other –
when you were young
and manged,
to somehow remain true
then life will be a rolling pageant
but for me,
life has always welcomed the new
and anyway,
risks assessments –
they did not exist when we were young
somehow mostly pissed,
that leap of faith had a distance
that we badly judged or just missed
because every decision was based –
upon knowledge that did not exist
never think of the past,
as some form of vice,
because as you get older it runs the risk
of becoming your own personal torture device
