Connections
she mentioned my childhood
i did not think she knew,
to be honest,
it felt natural
perhaps she had assembled the clues
and she talked about her mum a lot
of course,
i understand that
she spoke of herself
and the sadness that was keenly felt
but part of her has always been sad
long before i knew her,
when i was only sixteen
she was uncomfortable with her weight
but her kindness,
like her smile,
beamed
and we have not always sat comfortably
i accept,
that is down to me
but in that moment i was grateful for her kindness
and i realised,
what an awkward person i had been,
in our shared and collective past
and these last few years,
they have humbled me
and i know now,
just how much i have to be thankful for
