Society Makes Monsters – Written September 2023 (Aged 48)

Society Makes Monsters

as a society –
we made their unwellness
and it became,
a lucrative joke
we made their bullying behaviour –
a sign of genius and talent
and now,
when faced with the truth
the joke finally falls flat
and a collective attempt starts –
for voices to be heard,
for their to be a push back
how long –
will we as a society –
continue to celebrate and tolerate –
harmful unwellness
and label it as,
‘unhinged genius’
how long –
will we clap and applaud and celebrate –
and how long will we laugh with –
people who are a risk –
to themselves and certainly to others
as we do giving them status –
based upon the number of their lovers
as a society we make these monsters
because they make us –
feel better about ourselves
we want to believe in the idea of genius
because association makes us look better
and now –
that person, he swings round to the right
derides the mainstream,
and says, this is their fight
as they unleash a social media tirade
but be in no doubt that they are a monster
and it is one society made
