Love is Often Softly Spoken

i do not like the idea of notion –
of being beat,
or even beaten,
and i do not want life to be –
something that is half eaten
because,
i came here some time ago,
and you,
or anyone,
can never know of the hurt –
i have experienced
and it’s true,
my dreams,
like soft metal are often broken
but this life,
in it,
i do not want to be just a token
and it’s not about, ‘tough love’,
because love is often softly spoken
and it comes with protective gloves
i can’t lie down quietly,
i can’t be sat here on my hands
there are dramas to be staged
and i want to understand –
how every part is made
and remind me,
when i find myself somehow broken
that love exists,
but sometimes it is softly spoken
