Waiting In Line
i stand in line –
waiting for the next person to notice me…
the next person to take a shine,
destiny,
it is shared with others
but i would like it to be more for me
as if it is was really mine
people tell me who i am
and one hand, i do not mind
but they’re often opinions i do not share
i just wonder if they notice that my ascribed traits
are actually theirs
i listen,
i notice that the conversations flow –
with the anxiety of a sudden pandemic
but as described,
i am told i am too academic…
on one hand, i do not mind
these days mean i have read my palms
and my self instructions help keep my calm
but i am always here,
as if my hope needs a valid socket
but when will a different destiny be mine
is it when i clamber out of other peoples pockets
