Party Hats All Round
I should bow down with others,
pull the hood over my face,
pray quietly and verbally,
always go lightly.
I should doff my corporate cap
and learn to watch my back.
I should smile along to their story.
I should say please and thank you
whenever the blows miss
or even hit—
even when my care
is being constantly kicked.
I should just play along,
follow this desperate conga
with its awful, awful, awful song.
Hey, party hats all round.
But all this—
all this—
gosh, it just leaves me
feeling so down.
