Prejudice Sets Sail
They blame
other human beings,
human beings
they’ve not actually met.
Boats enrage them,
dinghies cause
their prejudice
to set sail.
It is the other
human beings
who seem to carry
their cans
for the things
which they have fouled.
They appear
to be about family,
but then,
in the intellectual hour,
the mask slips.
They can say
nothing original,
but they share
a thousand
hotel clips.
And it is the other
human beings
who find themselves
in boats,
devalued
and dismissed,
as the laughter
fills up
in the back
of their throat.
They blame
other human beings,
rather than
look at themselves.
They are told
and sold,
and easily convinced.
And their humanity,
and their ethics,
and their values,
are lost
in the moment
they blink.
