August Wears Its Coat
I saw sunshine today.
It bounced off a set of hills
that nested on some low ground.
I heard a voice today.
It had vowels
that bounced off the sky.
And I do not lie
because there is a messy room
in which the mess
chooses to hide.
I saw sunshine today,
although I saw August,
and it was wearing a coat.
It was dancing
in a car park,
watching puddles
as reflections flowed.
I had hopes once,
and they had
a noticeable bounce,
but then there is always
a collapse
and they go flat.
The past
It can be very good-looking,
turned your head,
so you look back.
But I saw sunshine today,
and I did.
I saw the sunshine,
and I played ruefully
with the stopwatch
of time.
