The Tartan Tin
Be the world of others,
days of the clock face,
and ones of former lovers.
I married someone once,
and I thought love would lift me,
like storybook clouds,
but I couldn’t be her world.
And as the sky
dripped down,
I gathered up my thoughts
and lay down
on my eiderdown.
Be the world of others,
days with a clock face,
of former friends
dipped in lace.
I married someone once,
and the devils must have sat around
eating shortbread
from a tartan tin.
Be the world of others,
let them know you,
let them in.
Because I have put some of my former days
back in to a tartan tin
