Focus On Your Sunshine

We are bombarded by negativity,
and people
who have clearly fallen apart.
They —
they do nothing for us,
and that is what I tell you.
We need to shut them out
of the places in which we live,
out of the rooms
where we dream and where we sleep.

Why don’t you
crash into the shore of my day?
I am here,
just rolling around in the sand?
Only occasionally do I flutter;
it is then
that I decide not to immerse myself,
and in fact,
I close the shutters.

And instead —
instead I focus on my sunshine,
and I focus on those,
those who need it and require it.
I ask you:
step away,
step away from all the madness —
the type
that overfills us,
like overstuffed supermarket shelves.

Our worlds
are occupied by people
whose liquid mental health
makes us mad from internal screams.
But, I tell you,
just focus on your sunshine.
