being in love with you is straightforward
i do mean it is dull –
or very bored
no,
nor do i mean it has the touch of a convenience store

the clock inside
how it ticks by
and too many people
have passed –
through my poetry

am i too old
for waiting on a girl
a woman, a lady
it is a crazy world
and it sends me crazy

they said
‘make love happen’
and,
that, ‘cupid’
had signed up

my subscription fee-
has cost me
two bucket loads –
of my self esteem
and four jugfuls –
of my dreams
