there is a wave
that,
crashes against the shore
i built a sandcastle
and it crashes no more

it is a shame
letting go of you
but pastures beckon
and i cannot resist the new

i have given my fair share
someone who rescues –
me from an attractive madness
and from,
an easier and addictive sadness

whose mother’s fate
waited at the school gate
clutching her hurt in one hand
and my bike in the other

that the labelling
and accusations
too me back to a childhood –
i barely survived
i wonder if the flame of compassion –
would flicker and come alive

when shared dreams.
