The Sexualisation of Children

we scream in horror at paedophiles
we drink up the tabloids
with their shock headlines of ‘Paedo!’
yet this is the same society
that sexualises children
that expects young girls
to dance and sing and sell us
a sexual fantasy
even though these girls
have barely started puberty
we expect them to wear tiny tops with,
slogans like, ‘you want me’ and ‘babe’,
or words like ‘cherry’.
we stroll through department stores
as if this is a norm
isn’t society just grooming children?
and then others happily join in,
music, media and of course, fashion
strangely ignoring that they are children
and still we scream in horror
at those media stories of paedophiles
society sexualises children,
yet we ignore that, don’t you think it’s vile?
