I Need You to Come Home To

work feels hard at present
heavy clouds
hang over its nature
i need home life,
‘wife’
cats and home
i need you,
to be there
when the madness
of my working day
starts to pull away
this form of sanity –
is us
even as we dilly dally
with our own version of ‘madness’
it comes at me
from all angles
and i contain it,
as i contained,
narratives and scenes growing up
i learned to shin
when my feet buckled
trying to toe the line
work bears down
i need you –
to come home to
