How Did We Used to Be
to be surrounded by woodland
is a feeling of oldness
from a darker time
of spiritual coldness
running bare
always looking over your shoulder
always scared
to clutch at straws
or one another
looking for doors
drenched in pools of light
that hover above the darkness
in depths of your deepest dreams
you try to get to the surface
worried, just in case
you are sunk without trace
how did we live a long time ago?
after the time of sadness
when we first started to grow
