Part of You Never Truly Leaves

in my mind you are never that far away
and occasionally
i cling to these memories
of long since passed days
they hold me,
they keep me,
they remind me of how far i have come
i am always, forever
a conclusion or outcome
of what happened,
when i was young

in my mind you are never that far away
and sometimes
as i sit there and the sun streams in
and i look between the blinds
it is our time together that i find
and i wonder,
with a dose of internal thunder
if you would be proud of me now
you went unexpectedly
you went but it allowed us to go
to grow old, to grow and achieve
but you will never know
however part of you never truly leaves
