Packet of Crisps
i think the flippant remarks
and the regurgitated carry on script
hides how much I feel
and how often I feel it
it is a defensive reaction
because, god forbid,
anyone sees the softer inside
and all these thoughts
that skip and dance behind my eyes
i am just here
i look at you and I care
i want you to smile again
and the smutty jokes
are just there as a wayÂ
of making sure no one gets too close
but that is a nonsense because I am emotional
i do nothing but emotional relationships
it always ends up on show
none of us really want –
all our emotions on show and naked
we would like them complex
and covered up
just remember I bought you those crisps
because they are a tiny expression
of how much I care
