Every Class – Thursday 13th June 2019

Every Class

people do see me –
as slightly clumsy
and slightly less slick
and, i do get it
i think back to younger self
and wince,
at how i must have appeared
and i have never shook off
the growing up years
the smoke from those
has never really cleared
you know who i am
when you meet me
no amount of learned aftershave
can disguise the roots
you can spot the tree
and its irregular fruits
i do not like the slickness
of the cosy pass
you feel every corridor of my schools
and you can imagine every class
i have to turn that
into something with half a use
despite my lack of diy skills
and working with angles so obtuse
i remain however, les slick
not quite there
and a personality with an odd fit
