Morton’s Fork

this idea of brexit
is just morton’s fork
despite all the talk
and deals made
despite the belief
in newfound trade
there is no outcome
that works
ideology and abstract concepts
are perverse
so in this carcass of rotting ideas
we eat with morton’s fork
hoping to find some meat
as for others
just anything to eat
but we realise there is not a thing
when they ordered this off the menu
they expected everything
with a side order of dreams
but as we all sit round the table
we realise, despite all the talk
and the promise of it all
we are left with morton’s fork
and something quite awful
