Taking a Match
No one ever told me
that this world
was not so good—
not when I was young.
I just took it for granted.
And when I see my father cry,
respect is all I ever wanted.
There I was,
going to school with people
you thought
it would never be right—
then meeting and realising
if you had been together,
it would have been alright.
Now, everything is okay.
I am so much older now.
The night has dawned
into a new day.
And yet,
I am still so eager to learn.
I have taken a match
to my past,
and I’m going to watch it burn.
You can see
that I am still working
on a wholly emotional level.
