The Children Thing

i find the children thing harder
i am finding it harder
to be happy for others
i am reminded of all the times
people have personal struggles
i find it hard
to say, ‘congratulations’
and you know, ‘well done’
i find it hard to sign the cards
even finding change in my pockets
to put in the envelope
so that they can buy something
maybe a beautifully knitted coat
i find the children thing harder
it pushes and it triggers,
and i wonder and i start to figure
that this is a sign
that i always deviate from the norm
which is ridiculous of course
