I Am not Seventeen Anymore

i am not seventeen anymore
i left that place
a long time ago
life since then has added,
further layers
to the cake
an the ingredients in the mix
are truest friends
i can pick

there was a time
when i left a family house
i am not seventeen anymore
so much less alone
even if, as i get older,
the paths are stranger
and lead further off
the so called beaten track
but i do not want to be
at societies trough
with my face always in it
i am not seventeen anymore
