is today’s modern cigarette
the same fashion
the same addiction
the same unhealthy fascination

twitter,
is today’s, mild or best
pale ale
and mother did not know best
it is money spent in the pub
when wages came in packets every week
and the world had that sepia touch

this is modern days
the current age
where virtual books,
eat every paper page
where the fat on opinions
comes with a dressing of synthetic sage
and holds the keys to an imaginary cage
of all the willing minions

facebook,
is this moment,
the modern cigarette
believe that to be so
strike the match of debate
take in the smoke and blow
puff on the pipe
of such shallow glow
