Bruises

the bruises heal
with time they heal
yes, over time,
they are less real
but the scar on the brain
is a memory of pain
the bruises heal
the bruises seem less real
but with head buried in hands
and red raw eyes
it is not hard to understand
that some things never truly die
taking a dip in the past
not just with your toe
but jumping straight in
we are complex,
there is nowhere to begin
the bruises heal,
to a degree, they heal
but the memory of pain
is always real
