Deep Society
society was built out of wafers
society was built out of balsa wood
society is built out of entitlement,
but it never should
society is rotten to the core
but working class pick the fruit
and the middle class listen to the ‘mummy juice’ pour
society is running a marathon
it will not complete,
it wants to be on the panel,
but who will give it a seat?
society was built out of egos
society was built out of paper chains
they plastered the walls using insecurity
and filled the windows with pain
society is rotten to the core
the working class pick the fruit
only the upper class have codes for the doors
the institutions of power,
convince us,
only they understand how best to display flowers
society is built out of hope
society is built of people
it likes a smoke,
in the vestibule of a church with a tatty steeple
be kind, be hopeful, be compassionate,
people
