Edging Closer to the Trap Door

we assume, safety is a given
because, ‘white british’ knows best
and by them,
‘english greatness’ has been driven
the, ‘savage world’
tamed by white skin
we, sadly,
have never abandoned that caustic thinking
we have private schools
turning out trauma and personality disorder
ever year,
we have media organisations
making sure prejudice is normal and clear
and here we are,
dizzy and drunk
listening to the pub singalong of brexiteers
playing a white mans funk
we are giddy with revolution
dismissive,
of the common need for solutions
we assume safety is a given
till the deadly traps door opens
then, the safety and progression
we take for granted,
will suddenly be a history lesson
wisely taught and often spoken
