You Are the Litter
you are the litter
throughout my adult life
you should have been the glitter
not the resounding strife
you should been,
the glitter and stars
not what gets left behind
when people leave a park
i look back
retracing old steps,
you are the litter
and often the mess
it does not dull your importance
or what you have meant to me
or the shapes and excitement
you have bought
but a glorious love story
is now only ever a harsh lesson taught
you are the litter
caught by the breeze of memories
and the wheeze of regret
days which should been long
with a delicate stretch
are days with situations
where we are both bereft
having known for so many years
you are the litter
that has never really been cleared
and now the taste is slightly bitter
when i think about those years
