Did You Dream of Castles?

did you dream of castles
of summer like skies
did you dream of the driveway
from which a husband kissed you goodbye
did you hope to grow up
without kneeling on a cushion of lies
maybe you wanted to be a princess
i bet you did try,
you almost had my breath
but there are holes in every lie
and it escaped,
did you think of the applecart
did you think, i cannot wait
well i am here,
and i count what matters
not our experience,
which you left in tatters
did you dream of something better
the perfect hold,
the winning letter,
or has it all just turned cold?
