People Grow

people grow
and leave the things
of youth behind us
the people, the places
they become moments
of almost forgotten faces
we never quite caught
growing up and changing
different ways of life
and different directions

people grow
and leave the things
of youth behind us
we rarely know,
it is happening
and sometimes we try –
to go back
or even sometimes hang on
but there comes a time
when we know they have gone
