The Cycle

you blew it, not me
you were out of order
you were out of line
i am not taking sides
but i cannot reinvent what happened
i am just trying to find out –
who was out of order
do not take it out on me
you blew it, not me
broken down families
can produce broken down kids
who turn into broken down adults
and when they have kids
the cycle is set, never to be broken
they cannot break the chain
if your father had been there
and been a little less like mine
you might have grown a little stronger
and kept your mind
instead of becoming angry young people
whose problems are dangerous
you blew it last night
you shut me out
that is your loss
i cannot argue with reason
or with people who are unreasonable
