It Was Not a Pilgrims Journey

it was not a pilgrims journey
enlightenment i did not seek –
or expect to find
it was more of a fumble and a stumble
through the landslides of my mind
but i had to go
to find out what was there
having always being told that we were the same
it was in fact obvious,
that there was not much shared

it was not a pilgrim’s journey
or a pilgrim’s tale
just an example of two human beings
for whom all else had failed
the selfish decision to explore the lines on my hands
a decision with a lit signpost of madness
of which few, including myself could really understand
it was not a pilgrims journey
no seat was booked for faith
and as for love and compassion
there just was not any space
