After the War
after the war
when the soldiers came home
to the towns
and the cities
and to our villages
and those who did not come home
by the church
they married and stood by the tree
where after the war
they hoped to live happily
the only thing they could not ration
was the love inside
and the look in their eyes
there was nothing austere
about their love for each other
and now the picture
hangs on the wall
a reminder of a time long ago
after the war
