Painfully Soft

i am painfully soft
really
i never invented a character
to guide me through life
my personality
is not made for these playground fights

i am painfully soft
really
confidence is very home-grown
had to be
when tackling the sea

i am painfully soft

i am crippled by the ripples
of my homemade wave machine
can you believe?
they pull the rug out from under me
and i fall to every flaw
they drill down into me
and discover i have the softest core
