One Person Stage Show

we become –
a one person stage show
with a variety of characters
never playing ourselves
all these characters –
are for everybody else
that is what i have become
i smile inanely –
with little surface repercussion
but my head is a whirlwind of thoughts
all demanding discussion
another character –
in another play
it is how we live our lives
it is how we fade
i have screamed and i have shouted
a temper tantrum
that says i demand to be me
but is not about me
it is about everybody else
and what they want to see
and what they want you to be
