Their Misguided Understanding
she said –
perhaps here –
you will find connection
meet people –
with whom you connect
and i realised
that i was not looking for that
my life is hardly a social riot
but it is full –
and rarely lacks peace and quiet
i am well loved
well cared for
and always have people –
in whom i can trust
i have not lacked connection
nor do i hope to connect
so i realised –
that i was not among those –
who i wanted to know
i stepped away carefully –
before they could know
