How Did You Expect Me to Feel?

how did you expect me to feel?
you left me cold and bare
unable to be myself
and struggling to care

how did you expect me to feel?
you questioned and probed
every action and ever word
you analysed over and over
the conclusions became absurd
you invaded my personal space
and said it was your right to
you did not listen to me
when that was all you had to do

how did you expect me to feel?
if i did not perform
i was being rude
yet i told you about my life
and you ignored all the clues

how did you expect me to feel?
you loved me with all your heart
but sometimes love comes with conditions
which just tear you apart
love can be as damaging as hate
life experience would have taught you patience
and the beauty of that which comes –
to those who are prepared to wait
