Inappropriately Cast in a Thousand Plays

i have been written off –
a thousand times
inappropriately cast in a thousand plays
where i never knew my lines
and i could not improvise what to say
i have been told i am no good so many times
i have forgotten which actual criticism
was truly mine
i have been put down, put upon
and thoroughly judged
i have seen a thousand eyes
none of which were willing to give me a hug
i have been the recipient
of cruel assumption
a thousand times and more
they actually start to put me down
but somehow i survive
with my auction under valuation
and my spine chilling weak estimation
a thousand times –
they have given me poor containment
and blamed my signals
for a catastrophic derailment
i have been written off –
a thousand times
and in every pit of despair
it is the ladder you need to climb
i have been written off –
a thousand times
inappropriately cast in a thousand plays
where i never knew my lines
