Kiss of Life – Written Thursday 7th September 2000 (Aged 25)

Kiss of Life

cannot resuscitate this friendship
this one is sinking
if you had not been a victim of yourself
and if i had done some straight thinking
i want to shake some gold
from this rusty pan
you turned your pretty face
away from my warm hands
and as i sat in your place
i knew i would never understand
it drifts now, making a slow descent
its death is slow and clumsy
life slowly ebbing away
with every bitter comment made
and i would stop,
if i believed there was anything to save
cannot resuscitate this friendship
it is climbing into an open grave
the blame, like your new found friend
must lie with you
cannot bring back what is lost
i mourn for that beginning
when we seemed to be so close
