The Churchman (Originally Untitled) – Written December 2000 (Aged 25)

The Churchman

the churchman turned,
turned woman into an issue of god
the lawyer turned,
turned money into a big house
but then the rain fell
and it was all washed away
the storyteller’s tell,
because they turned black into clay
the churchman turned,
and said, where have you been
the house of god awaits
and it does miss you
i see religion and hate,
you do not see the churchman,
selling the big issue
the big issue here,
is that the woman
has staked the cross on her tears
she marched up the endless hill
all these biblical years
and still we do not know what is real
