As Years Gather
i have become –
more reflective
as the years gather
and carry me along
lost mum,
before she finished the song
now,
i have lost another
this time it is dad,
and he spent his life undercover
trying to drown his, ‘sad’
i look back –
and i wonder,
how i survived at all
days,
when i was clumsy and small
it is not that the future –
does not excite
but it is not unusual
to look back on previous light
you think –
all the days have hurried by
with your memories and experience –
tucked beneath its arms
and the need for belief –
always leaves you wondering why
as the years gather –
i continue to love and i continue to try
