October Spring Clean
although it is october –
feels like time for a spring clean
i will tidy up –
and put away toys
that i once played with
and i will remember the words
like precious gifts
i will put away
the plasters and the bandages
that i used on wounds
bridges i built –
in hot lazy afternoons
although it is not springtime
and autumn has come to call
with winter shuffling its feet
just down the hall
a spring clean is requested –
to clean it all
all the things i collected
all the notions
of which i half suspected
although it is october
feels like time for a spring clean
